The Saint Mary’s Chicago East book club met on August 14th to discuss our “classic novel” pick, Persuasion by Jane Austen. Thank you to Mary (class of ‘03) for hosting us in her backyard on a beautiful summer evening!

For some people, this was their first time reading Persuasion and for others, they had read it previously - including April who still had her copy (notes included!) from when she read it in class at Saint Mary’s!

Read along with us: The genre/topic for September is a “banned book,” so we will be reading The Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky. A banned book is a book that has been censored due to many factors include the author’s race, gender or sexuality or the content of the book. You can learn more about book bans and censorship here. We will be meeting at an alumna’s house on September 11th. Please contact us if you would like to attend!

Can’t make the meeting? Check out our upcoming book picks here and read along with us.
