Happy New Year Belles! We are going to start the year off with a day of service and blessing our neighbors.
Where: Arbol Free Store - Humboldt Park United Methodist Church at 2120 North Mozart (near the California stop on the Blue Line).
What: We will be helping sort through current resources and rearrange the space so that they will be better set up to both receive donations and shoppers by the end of January.
When: Saturday, January 20, 2024. The shift is from 10 AM until 2 PM. If you can only help for half of the shift please add that to the comments when filling out the form.
If you would like to attend and volunteer, please fill out this Google Form so we know how many to expect.
After the event, there will be refreshments and hors d'oeuvres at Ashley Stopczynski's apartment ('13). The address will be emailed to those attending. You are welcome to join us and catch up with your fellow Belles.
About El Arbol Generoso:
El Arbol Generoso is a free store located in the basement of Humboldt Park United Methodist Church at 2120 North Mozart. It was created by volunteers to support families seeking asylum in the 14th district & around the city. Our mutual aid group, the 14th District Asylum Seeker Support Group, started our store to provide a space to house community donations. We've been operating the space since summer of 2023, using it to provide 1000s of items to our new neighbors. This has included clothing, bedding, hygiene products, infant items, and other supplies, depending on the needs of our new neighbors. As the City plans evolve, so do our services and resources.
We are currently in the process of re-organizing our space to better serve our new neighbors and creating official open hours for the community. We aim to provide a safe space that will allow people to "shop" the (free) store with dignity. We are all-volunteer run, with no funding. All resources come from our volunteers and the community.
